Post Scriptum: Go to the Druid for the Easter Egg...
About Myrddin's Oracle
Myrddin's Oracle is a collection of most common Oracles that are still in use today by shaman, druids, wiccans, pagans, etc.
This site does not contain divinations (there are a plethora of them on the web), but is a tool to help you with the several ways of fortune telling.
The first Oracle in the collection is The Ogham alphabet, created and used by the Celts. The Celtic God Ogma, the god of wisdom, learning and eloquence is credited in Irish legend with creating the Ogham alphabet and gifting humanity with it. Though an old alphabet, there is no physical evidence it pre-dates Christianity. The oldest stones with Ogham carvings date from around 300 to 700 C.E. Originally, the Ogham alphabet appears to have been used for very mundane purposes, such as marking gravestones and identifying property lines. Each Ogham letter, called a few, is associated with a particular tree or plant which the Celts regarded as sacred. Originally there were only twenty Ogham fews. An additional five were added later on (I can find no mention of how much later on, or why), but many Ogham-users employ only the original twenty.
While it cannot be definitively-proved the ancient Druids used the Ogham for divination, the ninth-century Irish epic, The Wooing of Etain does include a scene where a druid named Dallan uses the Ogham fews to discern where Midir had hidden Etain.
Two of the earliest-printed mentions of the Ogham alphabet appears in Irish monastic works: The Book of Leinster, written circa 1160 and The Book of Ballymote, an Irish medieval manuscript written in 1390 or 1391. Ballymote gave an overview of each letter, its meaning, and its particular plant, mostly trees, so the Ogham has also been called ‘The Tree Alphabet’. Included in the book were several diagrams using the Ogham fews, but the purpose of these diagrams is a mystery. One theory is, these diagrams are fragments of a lost system of using the Ogham for magic and divination, but this is speculation.
The second Oracle belongs more to this pre-Roman vision of life from present-day Europe deep into Eurasia: Runes. This form of oracle is much older than the Tarot (oldest source 200 BC), and well worth investigating as a self-respecting magister/truthsayer/diviner/fortuneteller/shaman/witch/sorcerer. Unfortunately, these characters have gotten a bad name for being used by hate groups. Myrddin himself has absolutely no affiliation with these hate groups and clearly wants to distance himself from them. The purpose of this website is mainly commercial & informative, as well as a historical database. Myrrdin respects and is open to all views of life and does not wish to offend anyone, if so, please let us know.
Third is an Oracle with roots in Arabia & Persia: Geomancy in it's different forms, a method of divination that interprets markings on the ground or the patterns formed by tossed handfuls of soil, rocks, or sand. The most prevalent form of divinatory geomancy involves interpreting a series of 16 figures formed by a randomized process that involves recursion followed by analyzing them, often augmented with astrological interpretations.
Geomancy was practiced by people from all social classes. It was one of the most popular forms of divination throughout Africa and Europe, particularly during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
In Renaissance magic, geomancy was classified as one of the seven "forbidden arts", along with necromancy, hydromancy, aeromancy, pyromancy, chiromancy (palmistry), and spatulamancy (divination by observation of a shoulder blade usually as blotched or cracked from a fire)
Fourth, the I Ching, The origin of the text is, as might be expected, obscure. In the mythological version, the culture hero Fu Xi, a dragon or a snake with a human face, studied the patterns of nature in the sky and on the earth: the markings on birds, rocks, and animals, the movement of clouds, the arrangement of the stars. He discovered that everything could be reduced to eight trigrams, each composed of three stacked solid or broken lines, reflecting the yin and yang, the duality that drives the universe. The trigrams themselves represented, respectively, heaven, a lake, fire, thunder, wind, water, a mountain, and earth.
the fifth being the Western Tarot. This new form of the Tarot, with significant changes from the original Tarot de Marseille (ca. 16th century) or the popular version of Rider Waithe (1910). Myrddyn's Tarot version has been stripped of Christian and Catholic mysticism and has been replaced by a pagan-inspired symbolism. In addition to alchemical symbolism, a connection is also made to the pre-Roman vision of life of the Gauls, Germans, Normans and Celts.
Last, there are several other oracles, like the gypsies way of fortune telling with Dice and Dominos.
There are many more, and you can find much more information about them on the web.
Lots of the oracles are layed out on diagrams (or boards), most well known is maybe the Quija board, although they're not always neccesary, they complete your set for more dramatic presentations that show you're serious about your practice.
