Rune Spreads
If you are using a laying method, you will draw the runes and place them in a certain pattern to reveal meaning. There are various different patterns to use, chosen based on the situation and the preferences of the reader.
Here are some of the most common:
The Three Norns with Stones
This is a simple process of casting three runes and laying them out in a horizontal line.
Three runes are picked out of a shaken bag by the querer, while concentrating on the question. The question should be kept quiet from the fortuneteller/ shaman/witch... at this point. The stones are layed out in a chronical, horizontal way and form the reading from left to right: - past, present , future - or - Urd, Verdandi and Skuld, named after the 3 Norns dwelling next to the "well of Urd" which stood under the tree of life Yggdrasil in Asgard and who where comparable with the Moirai In Greek mythology, (Latinized: Moirae).
The first rune, Urd (what once was), illuminates what actions from the past have brought you to the current situation.
The second rune, Verdandi (what is born to be), characterizes your current problem and may help you understand it better.
The third rune, Skuld (what will be), alludes to the most likely future outcome based on where things sit currently.

The Three Norns with Runic Dice
This way of laying or throwing Runes seems the same as the the previous one, however, the feeling of rolling dice is different and the reading is more course, therefor verry suited as a beginner's set, a stepping stone ( no pun intended ) to more advanced ways of working with the runes.
Most of the these dice are made of epoxy and might turn you off, but vegan-safe ones are in the make ( we are still looking for artisans )
The 3 different dice ( the Aett: Freyr, Heimdall & Tyr) are layed out in same manner: Past, Present & Future.
this type of dice divination has less possible outcomes as laying stones,

The Four Dwarves
The four dwarves casting works in a very similar way, except that you place the four runes in a circle, starting at the top and working clockwise.
The top rune again alludes to things that have already happened that have brought you to where you are. It can be considered the primary “cause” rune.
The rune on the right characterizes the things that you are doing that are influencing the situation, while the rune on the left illuminates the influence that others are having.
Finally, the rune at the bottom reveals a truth about the situation which is currently hidden. It often points out a motivation that we are not aware of or admitting to, but has an enormous influence on the current situation.
7 Runestones Spread: V - Branches
For this casting you lay seven runes in a V, starting at the bottom and working upwards, laying the runes, one on the right and one on the left, until you have seven runes.
The rune at the bottom represents the current situation, and each line stemming out from it a likely potential outcome.
The first rune on the branch represents the most likely action. The second rune reveals the motivation for that action, and the third rune suggests the most likely outcome.
